Noson Lawen’s YouTube channel is celebrating this week after the channel’s videos have been played over 10 million times.
First broadcast in 1982, the popular entertainment series has been produced by Cwmni Da since 2007, proving to be popular with audiences of all ages. The Noson Lawen stage is a place to celebrate the various talents here in Wales whether they are singers, instrumentalists, singers or comedians.
The Noson Lawen YouTube channel was launched ten years ago with a video of Aled Hall singing the song ‘Noson Fel Hon’. Now, the channel has published over 1,400 videos and with 7,000 subscribers who are waiting for the next performances to be released.
The channel’s most popular video is Dafydd Iwan and various performers singing ‘Yma o Hyd’ which has been watched 350,000 times.
The most popular song is ‘Anfonaf Angel’ by Robat Arwyn and Hywel Gwynfryn which has been performed by ten different artists. Rhys Meirion’s version has been played over 250,000 times.
“The YouTube channel gives new life to the songs” said Olwen Meredydd, the producer of the series. “The series is broadcast on S4C but we know from the comments on the songs that many people who are not regular S4C viewers love the videos, and the channel attracts people who don’t speak Welsh too.
The channel plays a vital role in S4C’s strategy to discover new audiences on their digital platforms. “It’s one of the most popular YouTube channels in the Welsh language in the world!”
Elen Rhys, commissioner of the series, said “We are so proud of this series. This is one of the Channel’s most popular and familiar brands which gives a platform to familiar and new talents across Wales. This news is fantastic and such an important resource for Wales and beyond.”
A brand new series of Noson Lawen will be broadcast in the Autumn. In the meantime, you can watch some of your favorite artists via the Noson Lawen website s4c.cymru/nosonlawen or of course our YouTube channel.
